DT teacher needed in the Horsham area with an immediate start date. (September 2022)

Randstad are working with a specialist SEN school near the Horsham area, working with children aged 11-18 years old. We seek to appoint an exciting and inspirational teacher, with ambition to achieve the very best possible outcomes for students in Design Technology. This role will give the successful candidate the opportunity to teach Design Technology, as well as potentially some PE.

The specific needs of each young person are at the heart of everything we do. With the “Good Lives Model” at the core, a variety of therapeutic methodologies is used flexibly throughout the young person’s placement. These are all adapted to what is assessed as most suitable any given time. This demands a highly-skilled approach from our expert therapists to ensure that transparent, open and agreed aims regarding the young person’s harmful sexual behaviour are achieved via an attentive, genuine and nurturing relationship.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provided teaching and support to groups 5-8 in size
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons and activities, focusing on life skills
  • Provide behaviour based support that may impact quality of life
  • Leading students during class by tracking their progress
  • Enabling learners to access the curriculum
  • Supporting the pastoral needs of the learners
  • Being an active part in creating a positive learning environment
  • Supporting students as part of a small group in a range of activities throughout the day
  • Using your interests to engage learners in learning

Key skills and experience needed:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • DBS Clear
  • Experience working with people with special needs
  • Be able to work with learners that have various learning difficulties including epilepsy and autism
  • Have an understanding of students with emotional needs
  • Willingness to learn and build relationships with learners
  • The ability to work as an individual and as a part of the team.
  • Be flexible in your approach to education.
  • Own means of transport is essential
