Job description: This post will be situated in the Cancer Communication and Screening Group. The group carries out research to understand uptake of cancer screening (focusing on colorectal and other screening programmes), cancer awareness and timely presentations with symptoms. The present post will involve participating in wider work relating to behavioural approaches to improving early diagnosis of cancer as part of the department’s involvement in the NIHR Cancer Policy Research unit for Cancer Awareness, Screening and Early Diagnosis. The post holder will be responsible for the design, data collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative studies relating to uptake of cancer screening, particularly the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, help seeking among people with cancer related symptoms and the role of social media in raising cancer awareness. The position is available from 1st August 2022 until 31st July 2023, in the first instance.

Prior relevant undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Psychology or related science are essential. Relevant experience in collecting quantitative or qualitative data, excellent organisational skills and communication skills are essential. Research experience with contributions to peer reviewed research publications is desirable.
